Project Overview
This joint venture project, valued at $683.3 million, involves realigning and reconstructing key sections of I-81 and I-690 in Syracuse, NY. Phase 1 focuses on the Southern Interchange realignment, including 11 new bridges, four noise walls, and over 300,000 cubic yards of earthmoving. Phase 4 includes I-690 realignment, new ramps, noise barriers, reconstructed streets, and upgraded signage, signals, and pedestrian facilities.
CHALLENGE
The project required extensive coordination across multiple interchanges, heavy earthmoving, complex bridge construction, and urban roadway reconstruction. Managing traffic flow while upgrading major highways and local streets posed additional logistical challenges.
SOLUTION
Our team, in partnership with A. Servidone, Inc. and Economy Paving, implemented phased construction strategies to minimize disruptions. We leveraged advanced scheduling, material procurement planning, and continuous stakeholder communication to keep the project on track and ensure safety and efficiency.
RESULT
Once complete, the project will enhance regional connectivity, improve traffic flow, and support economic growth. The realignment of I-81 and I-690 will provide modern infrastructure, safer roadways, and improved access for motorists and pedestrians throughout Syracuse.
