Project Overview
The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) engaged our design-build team to modernize the Olympic Sports Complex to meet international competition standards for bobsled, luge, biathlon, and cross-country skiing. The project enhanced facilities, upgraded infrastructure, and ensured ORDA’s ability to host world-class events, including the 2023 World University Games.
Cross-Country Ski Trails & Snowmaking
We built a 4.8km ski trail network meeting FIS and IBU standards, along with a biathlon shooting range. The high-capacity snowmaking system included 22,000 feet of piping, 180 snow guns, and a 3.5MG reservoir.
Reservoir Excavation
Our team designed and installed a 4.2MG reservoir for snowmaking and fire protection. Excavation totaled 133,000CY, including 20 feet of rock. A 60-mil HDPE liner reduced the need for additional bedding.
Sewer System Installation
The project included an 8-bed leach field with 800 feet of perforated pipe per bed, plus 4,000 feet of forcemain, pump stations, 11×8 ft vaults, and two large storage tanks for wastewater management.
Underground Conduits Infrastructure
We installed 55,000 feet of underground conduit with handholes and pedestals. The upgrades improved communication and data transmission for high-profile televised events at the venue.
Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings
We built a water plant with storage tanks, pumps, and treatment systems, plus a pumphouse for snowmaking operations. Both structures housed critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
Steel Bridges
Three prefabricated steel bridges were installed, including the 143-ft Stadium Bridge, 39-ft Lamy Lodge Finish Bridge, and the Biathlon Range Bridge, enhancing accessibility and competition flow.
Awards Plaza & Hardscapes
We developed an Olympic Awards Plaza with flagpoles, retaining walls, sidewalks, lighting, and ADA-accessible drop-off zones, complementing the venue’s aesthetic and functionality.
Asphalt-Paved Loop Trails
A 9,500-foot paved loop was created for summer training, meeting FIS homologation standards to allow year-round athlete development and competition preparation.
