Project Overview
This project involved the removal and reconstruction of multiple taxiways at the airport, including the demolition of five existing taxiways and the construction of four new ones. The scope included 58,000 CY of excavation, 21,000 CY of subbase placement, 25,000 tons of asphalt paving, along with drainage, airfield lighting, signage, and pavement markings.
CHALLENGE
The project required a 45-day shutdown of the airport’s main runway (10-28), demanding precise coordination to complete work within this limited window. Managing airport operations, security, subcontractors, and logistics while maintaining a strict schedule was critical.
SOLUTION
A highly organized approach ensured efficiency from day one. The team mobilized rapidly, bringing in four milling machines, 11 excavators, four bulldozers, and 25 trucks to maximize productivity. Close coordination with airport operations and subcontractors kept the project on track.
RESULT
The new taxiways were successfully completed within the scheduled runway closure, enhancing airport infrastructure while minimizing disruption to operations. The project demonstrated effective planning, coordination, and execution under tight constraints.
